I've come to the conclusion that I really like how Meyer balances retelling with the traditional story. I was a bit concerned seeing as I generally think any YA book over 500 pages feels too long, but I needn't have worried. You know, I actually checked and this is the longest YA book I have ever read at over 820 pages, the second longest being Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix at 766 pages. And this longass final installment was a heart-pounding, fast-paced finale. After finally giving in and picking up Scarlet, even though I hated Cinder, I just haven't been able to get enough of this series. The last few weeks have been a whirlwind of Lunar Chronicles. “She was prettier than a bouquet of roses and crazier than a headless chicken.

When we don’t eat, then insulin goes down, signaling the body to burn this stored energy (body fat). When we eat, insulin goes up, signaling the body to store some food energy as body fat. There’s nothing wrong with that – that is simply its job. And the main hormone we need to know about is insulin. So, the main problem of obesity is not necessarily the calories we eat, but how our bodies use them. Whether the calories we eat are burned as energy or stored as body fat is also tightly controlled by hormones. Whether we urinate a lot or a little is tightly controlled by hormones. Whether our heart beats faster or slower is tightly controlled by hormones. Every single physiologic process is a tight orchestration of hormonal signals. In your body, nothing happens by accident. " The main character in this series is such a thoughtful person, and she works to always do the right thing. I'm used to the McCall Smith style mystery but without the strength of the characters, it's difficult to be drawn into. Isabel is not a terribly engaging character and I was surprised to find myself struggling to finish this book. " Tried very hard not to make comparisons between Isabel and Mma. In agreement with historical records, these results confirm a strong gender-biased admixture history between European males and Native American females that gave rise to Mexican-Mestizos. Although this paternal landscape concurs with previous studies based on genome-wide SNPs and autosomal short tandem repeats (STRs), this pattern contrasts with the maternal ancestry, mainly of Native American origin, based on maternal lineages haplogroups. However, the European ancestry was prevalent in the north and west (66.7–95%) and, conversely, Native American ancestry increased in the center and southeast (37–50%), whereas the African ancestry was low and relatively homogeneous (0–8.8%). In the total population sample, paternal ancestry was predominately European (64.9%), followed by Native American (30.8%) and African (4.2%). We analyzed 18 Y-SNPs in 659 individuals from 10 Mexican-Mestizo populations from different regions of the country. The complex process of admixture that gave rise to the majority of the current Mexican population ( ∼93%), known as Mestizos, can be examined with Y-SNPs to establish their paternal ancestry and population structure. In the nonrecombining region of the Y-chromosome, there are single-nucleotide polymorphisms (Y-SNPs) that establish haplogroups with particular geographical origins (European, African, Native American, etc.). What I should have concentrated on is the writing, because it is superb. I think this anticipation of the big reveal threw me off a bit and I ended up a little underwhelmed when the ending finally came. But if you know in advance that you should expect something, it is very easy to pick up clues on the way and figure out the big secret fairly quickly. The reviewers like to point to a huge twist at the end of the story as the biggest reason for enjoying this book. I enjoyed it, but I think I spoiled the experience for myself a little bit. It made me forever and ever a dedicated fan of the series. Let me just say, if you feel so-so about this book (like I did), please give its sequel - The Queen of Attolia - a try.
